This volume is a study based on archival sources concerning a firm based in Leipzig which acquired land in German East Africa (near the coast of what is today Tanzania) in 1907 for the purpose of growing cotton. When the cotton crop was destroyed by leaf curl, the firm turned to sisal as an alternative crop.
