- For good reason, Saxony is the number one cultural destination in Germany. This is not only due to the abundance of distinctive architecture and an incomparable musical landscape, but also because of the many important museums and galleries, among which the Dresden State Art Collections stand out, although they certainly do not represent the entire wealth of the country. Leipzig and Chemnitz have their very own particular art development and lively museum scenes, which are complemented by many smaller institutions. With this brochure we have compiled the most important information for you. It is not a classic museum guide; we want to give specific suggestions that will help you make your way to art in Saxony and make it worthwhile and appealing. A short walk through the art history of Saxony is followed by an overview of the most important museums of the fine arts and the workplaces of great artists.
