- Abstract (EN)
- The publication-based dissertation explores how startups and corporations aim to create competitive advantage through strategic business model innovation, with a focus on environmental sustainability and disruptive innovations. It comprises four research papers developed for publication in peer-reviewed academic journals. The first paper conducts a systematic literature review to provide an integrated, comprehensive understanding of the contextual factors of disruptive innovation. It presents an integrated framework of disruptive innovation processes, improving the predictive ability of the theory of disruptive innovation. The second paper applies a flexible pattern-matching approach to analyze how startups with disruptive potential innovate their value propositions. It provides an integrated empirical framework of value proposition innovation determinants and tactics. The third paper investigates artificial intelligence in the business models of green technology startups. The results include an empirical framework that identifies five strategic key manifestations of integrating artificial intelligence into business models. The fourth paper adopts a qualitative research approach to explore organizational frames for decision-making in sustainable business innovation. It provides an empirically derived, integrated framework of two distinct organizational frames. The dissertation includes an introduction section that describes the need and motivation for the overarching research topic, introduces the key theoretical concepts, and details the publication status of the four research papers. The conclusion section provides theoretical and practical implications, as well as limitations and future research avenues across the four papers. In summary, this dissertation contributes to an enhanced understanding of strategic business model innovation in the context of environmental sustainability and disruptive innovations.
