Abstract (EN)

In the age of social media, companies are under increasing pressure to rethink investor relations (IR) and financial communication. As a result, it might become necessary to increasingly disseminate financial information in a dynamic and two-way mode to maintain a direct dialogue with stakeholders using social media. This paradigm shift is driven by increasing stakeholder demands for real-time information in an interactive format beyond regulatory monologic disclosures aimed at formerly mostly passive financial stakeholders. Therefore, this dissertation investigates social media perspectives and affiliated influencer applications for IR and financial communication. While influencers emerge as information intermediaries through a constantly growing audience, especially financial influencers can be seen as relevant new players in the financial community, positioning themselves alongside financial analysts and journalists. In addition, social executives—as the most powerful subset of corporate influencers—might increasingly influence corporate sociability and stakeholder engagement. This dissertation contributes to the academic discourse on rethinking IR and financial communication, using a multidisciplinary research framework rooted in accounting and finance that incorporates communication and marketing. Ultimately, it reflects on social media as a corporate communication channel and strategic partnerships with selected trusted (corporate) influencers for strategic IR and financial communication.
